The Pati Wreck - A Dive with a Dramatic Past
On January 1, 2001, during a fierce storm, the Georgian ship Pati lost control and crashed into the cliffs near Aquarium Bay, in the Kiriş area of Kemer. The ship, carrying illegal immigrants from Pakistan and Sri Lanka, split in two. The bow section sank immediately, while the stern remained lodged on the rocks until it too slipped beneath the surface in the winter of 2004.
Today, the wreck of the Pati lies at a depth of 5 to 12 metres on a sandy seabed. Due to the sharp drop in depth around the wreck, this site is recommended for experienced divers. However, professional dive guides are available to accompany beginners and ensure a safe and enjoyable experience.
Divers exploring the site will find scattered remnants of the ship, including masts, chains, and anchors. The wreck has become a thriving habitat for marine life such as dusky groupers, moray eels, stingrays, and countless starfish. On occasion, even tuna fish can be spotted gliding through the area.
Blending a powerful story with fascinating underwater scenery, the Pati wreck offers a unique and memorable dive just off the coast of Kemer.
